Water is the elixir of life, and its significance for human health cannot be overstated. However, the vessel in which water is stored can also influence its properties and potential health benefits.

Copper water bottles have gained popularity in recent years, hailed for their ancient origins and potential therapeutic effects on human health. There’s definitely more and more evidence coming out pointing to the negative effects that drinking from plastic water bottles has on health and the environment, particular when these water bottles are used over long periods. Sure, there’s plenty of BPA free plastic bottles, but these don’t compare to investing in a quality cooper drink bottle that will last a life time and offer some surprising health benefits.

This article explores the various benefits of using copper water bottles, delving into scientific evidence and traditional wisdom to shed light on this centuries-old practice.

Historical Context: A Timeless Tradition

Copper has been cherished for millennia by ancient civilizations, including the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Ayurveda, an ancient Indian holistic healing system, also extols the virtues of copper for promoting well-being. The practice of storing water in copper vessels dates back to ancient times, where it was believed to imbue the water with various health benefits. Understanding the historical significance of copper water bottles can offer insights into the traditional wisdom that still resonates today.

One prominent ancient practice involving copper is the storage of water in copper vessels. This practice dates back thousands of years and is rooted in the belief that storing water in copper vessels overnight or for a certain period imbues the water with beneficial properties. It was believed that copper could purify water by killing harmful bacteria, viruses, and other microbes, making the water safer and more healthful to drink.

Understanding the historical significance of copper water vessels offers insights into the traditional wisdom that continues to resonate in modern times. Today, copper water bottles and containers are still used by many individuals who seek to incorporate ancient health practices into their daily routines. While modern science continues to investigate and validate the health benefits of copper, the cultural and historical reverence for this metal underscores its enduring importance in holistic health traditions worldwide.

How I Use My Copper Water Bottle

Ayurveda recommends leaving water in the copper water bottle overnight at room temperature for about 6 to 8 hours, and then drinking 1 to 2 cups of water from the bottle first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

I personally use a 28L Benchtop Water Filter with a Ceramic Carbon Mineral Filter. I have this full at the start of the week and fill up the Valka copper water bottle at night to let it sit in the water bottle for a long period to get the benefits. I refill the copper bottle each night, but am also happy to drink the water directly from the filter.

Achieving a ‘sitting period’ for the water in the cooper bottle is not always possible, but I’m still satisfied that drinking from a copper vs plastic water bottle is far better for you and the environment too.

The added benefit of using a copper water bottle is that they are dishwasher safe and wont degrade over time when exposed to heat like the majority of plastic water bottles will do.
